Only 65% of Indian children receive the full schedule of vaccinations, and the country has more than one third of all unvaccinated children worldwide. As a result of this immunization gap, an estimated 640,000 children die yearly from vaccine-preventable diseases. Charity Science Health’s mission is to expand immunization coverage across India by implementing an intervention proven to be effective: sending reminders to mothers when their children are due for vaccination.
CSH was created by two effective altruists with the goal to fill the gap between evidence-based interventions and implementation. We implement interventions that have significant evidence showing they are cost-effective ways to save lives, evaluate if the program is having the desired effect and then try to integrate our programs into government systems.
After 6 months and thousands of hours reviewing the literature on the most cost-effective and evidence-based global poverty interventions, our team determined that the winner is using text-message reminders to remind people of their upcoming vaccination appointments.
