Our main goal is to set up an effective system that increases vaccination rates and saves lives. We want our system to be:
India as a whole looks very promising when taking counterfactual impact and vaccination rates into account. However, with the right partnership, we might consider another country. Within India, we have looked at a considerable number of target locations which seem particularly promising, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.
Nonprofits often spend considerable time and money scaling a suboptimal intervention. Before scaling an innovative idea we want to ensure we have tested several potentially effective ways of reaching our target population and several ways of delivering the reminder. Due to the nature of a phone-based delivery system, we have the ability to test and measure many different methods of sending reminders.
These variations include small tweaks like how many words are optimal to send, to large changes like voice reminders versus text messages. Once we have tested various approaches, we will run an RCT to ensure our program is running in the most effective possible way.
Partnering with Hospitals
Hospitals are naturally aligned with our goals of increasing immunization rates. We partner with them such that they collect the phone numbers of new mothers who would like to be a part of the program, then we send the reminders and deal with the rest. We focus on hospitals, public or private, that serve the poorer sections of society.
Partnering with NGOs
Many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) work with infants and new mothers. Adding phone number collections to their process is relatively simple and dramatically increases their impact on the lives of their beneficiaries. We work with charities in a similar way to hospitals.
